Welcome

At Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, we provide world leading treatment and care for patients with a wide range of eye problems, from common complaints to rare conditions that require treatment not available elsewhere in the UK.

As well as treating patients from across the UK, we see patients at a number of sites in and around London which means we can provide treatment closer to where people live. These sites include facilities at Ealing, Croydon, Bedford, St George’s, St Ann’s and Northwick Park hospitals along with two diagnostic hubs in Hoxton and Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

We are proud to be a global leader and as a world-class centre of excellence for ophthalmic research, we have an innovative approach to eye health ensuring our patients benefit from the very best and latest advances in treatment and care.

Local Area and Community

We believe our community of staff are our biggest asset and we are proud of how skilled, dedicated and diverse our workforce is. Providing you with the support and training you need to thrive in your role is a top priority for us.

Working at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust you will be guided through your day-to-day work and training milestones. We provide a training course for staff new to ophthalmology, which is a programme designed as a clinical introduction for nurses who have no experience in this field.

There is also a wealth of educational opportunities you can tap into if you’d like to take the next step in your career. These include a post graduate diploma in clinical ophthalmic practice for those who want to develop advanced knowledge of the eye, eye diseases and treatment and the research underpinning clinical practice.

You will also have the opportunity to complete an MSc in clinical ophthalmic practice which offers advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge and practice in ophthalmic services and care. You will also be able to sign up to a host of short courses and study days to help you fulfil your potential and deliver the best care to our patients.

Pastoral and Professional Support

At Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, we understand moving to a new country can be challenging so we will be there with you every step of the way and will help with any issues that arise no matter how small.

As you settle in, we will provide you with dedicated pastoral and professional support. We have employed a member of staff specifically to support our international nurse’s joining us from around the world. They will help you to settle into living in London by showing you around the local area, and sightseeing around London. We will also help you with the essential things you will need to learn like; where to go for your shopping, helping you set up bank accounts, and learning what you can do in your time off work like visiting local parks, going for a swim or a trip to the pub or cinema with friends.

The pastoral care lead will also help you to learn about working in Moorfields by introducing you to the teams you will be working with, assigning you a mentor and work buddy and support you in the training required to register with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) as a nurse in the UK.

As well as this you will receive a full induction to the trust, details about the different staff benefits you are entitled to and information you will need to know about living in London and travelling to and from work. We also offer support through our occupational health and counselling services and our Intercultural Therapy Pathway which provides psychological support to all our staff.

You will also have the opportunity to join our thriving staff networks who can provide a connection with colleagues from a wide and diverse range of backgrounds and cultures.

Our team say…

I left the Philippines in 2000 to start a new life and career in the UK. My first job was at St Georges hospital, London. In 2002 I moved to work for Moorfields. Since I started in the trust, I have been given many opportunities to develop my knowledge and skills in ophthalmic care, which have supported me in fulfilling my biggest achievement of becoming a matron in the trust. Since moving to England, I have bought up my family and have a great network of friends. I really enjoy working in Moorfields and leading a team who provide our patients with excellent and compassionate care.
