A new pathway to University courses for internationally educated nurses and midwives

UK registered international nurses and midwives often face significant challenges when attempting to access postgraduate university courses in the UK as sometimes their home country qualifications do not meet the entry requirements set by UK Universities.

To address this issue, Capital Nurse in partnership with Ulster University, have developed an innovative solution.  We have developed a module to evidence learning by those who have successfully completed the NMC Test of Competence and can demonstrate safe and effective practice as an NMC registrant in the UK. On passing the module, you will receive a Statement of Academic Record, confirming 20 credits at academic level 6. This statement can serve as proof of study, helping you to meet the requirements for university programmes. The module fee for academic year 2024/25 is £200 which falls within the scope of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) funding in England, making it an affordable option.

How to apply

To be eligible to do this module, you need to:

–  have passed your NMC Test of Competence

–  have live registration with the NMC as a nurse or midwife with an NMC PIN

–  be currently practising in the UK as a registered nurse or midwife

The module will involve completing a portfolio of evidence that will be signed off by your manager. Guidance for students and manager on how to do this will be provided by the module team at Ulster.
