Induction, Career Development and Support
From day one, you will be given the tools to support your development and success in your career. Every new starter on the international recruitment programme has a two week induction period and an 8 week supernumerary period. During this time, you will be shadowing a Registered Nurse and undertaking delegated duties that do not require a registered nurse pin. You will also be attending OSCE preparation training.
On arrival you will be allocated a buddy (another internationally educated colleague), who will provide peer support during your first few months. You will also be given the International Nurse Recruitment project leads contact details, who will assist with any of your queries.
You will have an allocated mentor on your placement areas to support your transition into nursing in the UK and the OSCE preparation leads will support your practice sessions. Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust has a dedicated team, who provide training and support to prepare the internationally educated nurses to undertake their NMC OSCE.
The training current consists of virtual and face to face training days comprised of class room teaching, role play and MOCK examinations. You will be expected to revise in your own time and CLCH have training facilities that the nurses can utilise outside of the scheduled training programme. CLCH has a 100% overall pass rate at OSCE.
Once you have gained your NMC pin, there will continue to be a period of preceptorship and you will be accessed against competencies for a band 5 nurse. You will also be enrolled onto the band 5 development programme. You will attend study days and be supported by the Practice development nurses in your area.
